Unlimited Festival

Black crows ski have been hosting this festival for many years now. It used to be an intimate home made 3 days bacchanal called the black week end with sweet DJs and crowd. This is now a full blown (mostly) electronic music festival with cutting edge sound designers and huge crowd. As usual, my procrastinating punished me, i didn’t get that “black bracelet” on time allowing drinks and entry to all events for cheaper…i had to choose which and what without costing my arms and legs. Luckily, my wish was on heavy , dark industrial techno berliner Berghain resident Marcel Dettman, playing 3 times with 2 free events. It is easy to find good house music or dance music in any event but techno is far harder. Marcel dettman is a sure thing. Under the same MDR/Ostgut-Ton label, answer code request was playing as well. the cherry on the cake. (on the techno ostgut-ton label, ben Klock was here as well but i missed him)
For me the festival started at the aiguille du midi. Which happened to be my first time up there this season. Yes, kinda unreal but a mix of bad season leading to work a lot and my bad attitude had this happen …what a treat to be partying up there…
The most defining moment was at the refuge de lognan , me and Nate at a table when answer code request (Patrick Gräser) started with playing that song. The scenic, clouds, the song . This is where i fell in love. What followed was pretty amazing . Precise bass in an outstanding setting in the privacy of a mountain refuge…priceless.

powerful Humans skiing. It is such strong skiing down a gnarly face. Very impressive. I was posted at the very top of a mountain across the face so i couldn’t hear who was going and which start. Getting a shot was alike posting myself in the Zambian bush to wait for an animal to cross path. When it happened , i wasn’t sure who and sometime the time to get my camera at the right spot was too late. Oh well.

My only day off in over a month and the first night it snowed side ways in chamonix all winter. Nicklas told me grand montet was all time yesterday . I’m watching today’s videos of hellbroner italy sort of making my decision .Italy. Morning comes, there is at least 50 cm on the ground, i go for grand montet threatening nicklas to kill him if there is more than 10 peeps and no powder. I drive up. junk show. CRAP! Thinking i should turn around and head for hellbroner. Anyways…after all. it was an amazing days , no people and first time i ski those bottom couloirs in 3 years. it felt like a december . no , really it was.
Roads
Season 2016/17 is officially the worst since i arrived in chamonix in 2005. People do ski and have fun but i would need the same inspiration than when I ski in August or July. It isn’t there so i work. My seasonal job this year is transfer driver. It translate into probably 30 000 Km since i started. I like it, i like the road. It unfurl the mind with its load of oddity and glitches. Like a Lynch movie. It is a good recipe to clear the brain up. or at least for me . Everything seems to make sense. almost.

Searching for angles.
I wanted to search for a good angle to take skiers with my 400 mm, i think it would make a cool frame . I called Nat segal an excellent skier who is currently in Chamonix. Unfortunately the winds have worked the snow and we couldn’t really find all the elements for the frame i wanted. I switched to my 100 and we just rode brevent flegere, sometime stopping for a shot…the snow was variable which is good for training. I guess.

so. we had one storm. It was nice. I skied with Jesper Petersson, One of the new strong ski alpinist of chamonix. Last time i took a picture of him skiing was when he was in the Y couloir of aiguille verte.
I got some shots of him skiing powder. And since we haven’t had that much champagne lately. I post them all. Porn.
The drought effect
I remember (smiling at ) my friends in the sierra california who for the past 5 years have been skating on lakes whilst we were scuba diving neck deep powder. This is our turn now, drought means skatable lakes. It is cute …it was at the emosson dam so the views are alright. With John Minogue, Jtan jacob, jenn shelton and giulia Monego

At the top of a powder face , binding broke. Luckily the snowboarder Davide Capozzi comes to the rescue with a spare toe binding in his pocket and a screwdriver . pretty unusual-random. saved the day.

It is currently very dry in chamonix and the Alps in general. Although the high mountains are skiable, anything under 2500M is grass. It is of course not necessarily due to the global warming trend but if you add it to the arctic being 20c warmer than it should be.Over 61 millions americans voted trump and believe global warming is a chinese hoax-we should keep drilling everywhere-keep using as much fossil fuel as possible and fuck the research for better energy sources. This is worrisome . Meanwhile in chamonix , we breath the most polluted air in France, we have no snow in december. Oh well!
